UK: The fi rst construction phase of a £3m new spa at the Headland Hotel in Newquay in Cornwall has been completed. Situated on the lower ground fl oor level of the hotel, leading directly onto Fistral Beach and facing the Atlantic Ocean, the 825sqm spa was designed by Cornish interior specialists Absolute Graphics. Featuring six treatment rooms, including two doubles


and one with a hydrotherapy bath, other facilities include two manicure and two pedicure stations, a spa dining lounge, a relaxation lounge and a gym. The facility’s Wellness Area includes a heated indoor pool,


Hotel La Licciola Thalasso launches in Sardinia


Sardinia: As part of an expansion of the Delphina Resort Valle dell’ Erica Thalasso and Spa in northern Sardinia, a new destination hotel has opened. Called Hotel La Licciola, it overlooks the Archipelago of La Maddalena and features 116 bedrooms within fragrant landscaped grounds as well as three seawater swimming pools with interconnecting waterfalls. The resort’s existing Thalasso and Spa Centre


‘Le Thermae’ will be available for guests to use. Set within 1,600sqm of natural granite rocks, the spa is scented by Mediterranean herbs such as jasmine and mastic. A thalasso circuit of four seawater swimming pools of differing temperatures is complemented by a hammam, a sauna, 15 treatment rooms and a large relaxation area.

Wellness and Spa Tourism Monitor 2013 was prepared in cooperation with Danubius Hotels Group and has been endorsed by more than 50 partners around the world, including a range of hospitality groups as well as national and international organisations. The core objective of the study


was to identify the role tourism and tourists play at various spa and wellness facilities worldwide and provide industry insights for operators, managers, investors and consultants. The study was undertaken in early


2012 and features information gathered from more than 50 countries and 420 spa and wellness facilities.
