A1 Lighting chats to Claus Jarlgaard Jensen, Chief Executive Officer of Riegens Lighting Ltd about the inspiration behind it, facing challenges and what the future holds….

1. When and where did it all begin? Riegens was founded in 1956 in Copenhagen and is now based in Odense, Denmark. It is one of the biggest lighting manufacturers in the Nordic area with sales offices in many European regions and the UK company with its own manufacturing facility based in Braintree, Essex

2. What is the inspiration behind Riegens? We aim to deliver lighting solutions which provide quality of light at an affordable level. Like all manufacturers we take our energy responsibilities very seriously and so continue to develop and provide solutions which enable our customers to reduce their carbon footprint and also their energy costs.

3. What has been your biggest challenge to date?

Like most companies the last couple of years have been tough with the economic downturn- add into that the technology shift from traditional light sources to LED and you have a cocktail which many lighting manufacturers have struggled to adapt to.

4. How did you overcome it? We increasingly are building an organisation which innovates and embraces the new technologies. We are building partnerships and strong relationships with our suppliers who support and educate as the curve steepens.

5. What does the future hold for Riegens Lighting? We continue to focus on our core business competences. Through innovation and a strong product development strategy we aim to increase our market share and continue to offer energy efficient solutions benefitting out customers.
