Energy & Environment T
HE PRIMARY PURPOSE of the Energy and Environment Committee is to directly assist BOMA BC with the development and delivery of Energy and
Sustainability related initiatives for members. Other functions of the committee include: advise of pertinent trends, best practices and key issues in the industry; plan and deliver awareness campaigns and events; provide input and advice to BOMA BC regarding specific programs, as well as policy/legislation/bylaws related to energy and sustainability; and contribute content for BOMA BC’s website, Energy eXpress newsletter and other communications. This year’s main focus was on creating energy and
environmental awareness campaigns and challenges to engage members. BOMA successfully delivered the first EMP Challenge in October 2012. In support of BC Hydro’s PowerSmart month and our EnergyManagement Program, we challenged our members to conserve energy in their buildings. The winning building was Guinness Tower, managed by Oxford Properties Group. Challenges for 2013 have also been planned.

The New Professionals of BOMA (TNP)
C
REATED THIS YEAR, The New Professionals is a sub- networking group for industry people under the age of 40. The goals of the group are to engage an audience
that doesn’t typically attend the luncheons, introduce potential real estate members to BOMA, and provide networking venues that are well suited to this group. The first two events were a success, with 40 people in
attendance at each. They were held at the Gallery Café, and Secret Location, respectively. A great amount of positive feedback was received on this networking group, and the lively yet relaxed format. Future events will be planned for every three months.
Committee Members Sarah Jones, BOMA BC (Chair); Lorina Keery, BOMA BC; Daniel Klemky, BOMA BC; Kiomi Lutz, BOMA BC; Aislinn McCarry, Halsall Associates; Allison Porter, Fire-Pro Fire Protection

NGAGING OUR NEWESTMEMBERS and introducing them to the association continued to be a high priority. Members of the Contact Committee played a vital role by
meeting with them at their first BOMA Luncheon to make them feel welcome and answer their questions. Phone calls were made to new members who hadn’t attended any events to ensure they were receiving the notifications, and answer any membership-related questions.
