The first event in the 2012 ISSF schedule featured a home- field advantage for the USA Shooting Team, who went on to have the highest team medal count (three gold and two bronze). Great Britain came in second in the overall medal count, and Greece was third at the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club, a USA Shooting Certified Training Center. The USA Shooting Team started competition on a high note when Kim Rhode shot a perfect 75/75 in women’s skeet qualification—a new world record. In all, the elite field tied four world records and threw down two new ones.
“After the shoot-off, I thought about what I needed to do since I was coming in down by a lot in terms of looking at the gold. I didn’t think it was out of the question , so I basically told myself it’s a 50 or nothing. I had nothing to lose since I was in sixth place. I kept chewing away and by the end of the round I found myself in third. I’m definitely happy with the outcome.”
