Has your Olympic career lived up to the Olympic dreams you had when you first began this journey as a 16-year-old in Atlanta?
Each Olympic Games is unique—it’s about the journey, challenges and thrilling moments that become the great memories of life. This Olympic road had some of my greatest challenges, but that made my gold medal in skeet that much sweeter. As a 16-year-old entering the Opening Ceremony stadium in Atlanta, I always hoped my Olympic career would span this many Games, but I never anticipated five Olympic medals . . . and hopefully more!
Outside of winning Olympic gold and establishing yourself as one of the in London?
My favorite moment was the medal ceremony, and knowing that I had accomplished a goal that I’ve been dreaming about. When they placed the medal around my neck, I watched the flag rise to the top of the pole while our national anthem was playing. I can’t begin to describe how I felt. My hand was over my heart as I hummed the words, trying to keep from crying. Chills were running up and down my spine. It was an absolutely amazing feeling—it’s the feeling that keeps me wanting to come back to the Olympics for more. After all the hard work, training and bumps in the real world, the end result makes the journey so worth it!
