3 F rom the top MAX A. MEEK, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER & GENERAL MANAGER Take Action In the May

We believe Capitol Hill should have the best interests of consumers in mind by balancing the cost to consumers while achieving environmental goals.

2009 OEC News we asked you to join us in contacting Congress about balancing environmental energy policies with real life concerns about rising energy costs. Thank you for supporting the Our Energy, Our Future campaign (www.ourenergy. coop) to keep power affordable, safe and reliable. Your past and

continued support, along with tens

of thousands of individuals like yourself across the country, plays an important role informing  impact government policies can have. Today, we have another critical issue that

needs your attention. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced misguided regulations on carbon dioxide emissions from new coal-based power plants. Unfortunately, the EPA proposal takes our nation's energy and environmental policy in exactly the wrong direction.

The EPA plan has effectively outlawed coal

as a fuel source for the next generation of power plants—quite contrary to the bipartisan goal of an "all of the above" energy policy. The proposed standards would require new coal plants to install a technology that is not yet commercially available called 'carbon capture and storage.' Because the technology is not yet available, this rule would eliminate coal as a fuel source and reduce America's fuel diversity. Electric cooperatives support a comprehensive

energy and environmental policy that embraces all fuels (nuclear, natural gas, renewable, and coal),  the development of technologies that continue to improve our environment. We believe Capitol Hill should have the best interests of consumers in mind by balancing the cost to consumers while achieving environmental goals. At OEC, we work hard to deliver reliable

and affordable power to you every day. It’s why electric cooperatives were created, and it’s a commitment we plan to keep. Co-op leaders are  best solutions for addressing climate change while keeping the price of electricity within your means. Please join the thousands of Americans like

you who are concerned about how energy policy is decided by visiting www.ourenergy.coop. Find out more about where OEC and NRECA stand on the issues important to electric co-op members by visiting www.nreca.coop.
