Products Technology file New HMI takes ideas to results faster

Human machine interface technology takes a leap for- ward with the launch of Beijer Electronics’ new iX 2.0 HMI software and new generation operator panels. Summed up in the market-driven concept HMI at the speed of thought, the iX HMI solution both speeds up project development and makes the application faster and more efficient to navigate. The iX 2.0 development software minimises the dis- tance between the HMI idea and the fully deployable, intuitive application. Smarter engineering tools and an improved ribbon menu set in a Windows-based environ- ment ensure substantial time gains for project develop- ers. Implementing navigation tools used in everyday applications such as mobile devices, iX 2.0 creates new ways to interact with machines using scroll and swipe gestures. With more intuitive applications that help oper- ators make the right decisions, operation becomes safer and productivity increases.

Proportional valves for pressure and flow

A range of proportional valves from Norgren com- prises high-performance products which enable flexible control of both pressure and flow. Norgren VP50/51 and VP23 proportional three- way pressure controllers have been specifically designed for pressure regulation and leak testing. Areas of application include the positioning and speed control of cylinder movement. Here, the VP60 proportional valve delivers fast response times and exceptional repeatability. On-board microprocessor control directly operates this 5/3-way glandless valve. The VP60 has fast response times (3-5 microseconds) and a standard serial interface for a Windows user interface (VP Tool) described above. The Norgren range of electropneumatic proportional valves includes proportional pressure and flow versions with open or closed control loops. Sophisticated glandless piston technology and balanced seating continuously regulates and controls pressure or flow. The result is highly responsive performance and a long, problem-free life cycle. Starterkit for ultra small and rugged applications Kontron has announced a new

COM Express Starterkit with the industrial grade (E2) Carrier Board Kontron COM Express Reference Carrier-i Type10 for ultra small and rugged applica- tions based on COM Express mini Computer-on-Modules with pin-

CAM software

finds new heights Open Mind Technologies’s award-win- ning hyperMill CAM package incorpo- rates a new 5-Axis shape offset rough- ing and finishing feature which saves time when creating CAM programs for parts with curved surfaces.

The package was shown to visitors at MACH 2012 (pictured). The new Shape Offset Roughing module is suitable for curved parts such as aero engine or pump housing parts. Whereas alternate CAM process- es consist of multiple jobs or program steps that consequently create addi- tional programmer input and a very high overall programming effort, Open Mind is said to be the first CAM manu- facturer to develop a strategy specifi- cally for 5-axis shape offset machining. The machining strategy in hyperMILL turns the curved surface into the stan- dard surface, allowing the tool to work at any point at an angle of 90 degrees. Programming times are cut from two to three hoursto minutes. Open Mind Technologies T: 01869 290003 openmind-tech.com Enter 224

out Type 10. The Kontron COMe Starterkit Ref. Carrier T10 is specifically configured to make evaluation and development of small form factor and mobile applications easy, even for the extended temperature range (-40 °C to +85 °C).

For an individual Starterkit, only the COMe-mini module and the suitable cooling solution have to be selected to immediately start the development, while all other components are preinstalled. In addition to the mini-sized (120mm x 120mm) COM Express Reference Carrier-i Type 10, the Starterkit includes a 7in WVGA touch panel, cables and PSU. The kit is compatible with all COM Express mini Type 10 modules and it unleashes its full potential when used with industrial grade COMs such as the Kontron COMe-mTT10 to develop by-design rugged applications.

Inverter series for precise configuration

Distributed automation applica- tions place wide-ranging demands on drive systems. Optimal solutions will, by neces- sity, be those that fulfil the functional and cost needs for a specific application. Available in a wide range of per- formance grades and with many upgrade options, SK 200E series frequency inverters from Nord Drivesystems allow users to select customised solutions with features and costs tailored to their specific requirements. The modular inverter series is available in size 1 to 4 with a performance between 0.25 and 22kW, cost-efficiently covering distributed applications ranging from simple control tasks to complex positioning.

An ideal OEM servo drive

Inmoco has taken its range of high-per- formance digital servo drives from Elmo Motion Control to a new level by adding to it the DC Trombone. Based on Elmo's advanced SimplIQ motion control technology, the DC Trombone operates directly from the mains and delivers no less than 7kW of continu- ous qualitative power. The DC Trombone is ideal for integra- tion into any motion system, either standalone, or multi-axis, providing a high performance motion control unit for use with sinusoidal, trapezoidal and DC motors. Despite its compact foot- print, the Trombone is feature-rich, offering the highest power density, and integrating vector control sinusoidal commutation, advanced filtering and velocity gain scheduling for enhanced dynamic performance. These features, plus programming flexibility, CANopen networking and the widest range of feedback options, make the Trombone the ideal OEM servo drive.
