2012 Youth Tour stand-outs


Four very talented youth


will soon depart on a trip to our nation's capital fully funded by Oklahoma Electric Cooperative. Your cooperative does this because supporting the youth in our community represents a guiding principle: Education, Training and Information. Youth Tour is fun, for sure, but


these youths will be bring back more than T-shirts and trinkets;  knowledge of how government works, inspiration to achieve as our founders achieved and a greater understanding of the power of the people. A banquet was held on March


29, 2012, on the OEC campus;  came to present speeches in front of their families, OEC staff and board members, and three independent judges. Four high school juniors were chosen to attend Youth Tour with hundreds of other Oklahoma delegates and thousands from co-ops nationwide.

Clark, daughter of Randy and Tiffany Clark, is junior class vice president at Norman North. She is also one of two delegates chosen from Oklahoma for the U.S. Senate Youth Program and intends on studying political science in college. Hayden Hefner, son of Rodger


and Sherah Hefner of Blanchard, is a camp counselor for children in foster care. He plans to attend OSU and pursue a degree in speech pathology. Denton Lowe of Amber-


Pocasset High School is a previous attendee of Energy Camp, a camp for eighth grade kids. His parents are Dick and Judy Lowe. Denton plans to attend OSU to study agri- business. He enjoys working on his grandparents' farm and with his own small herd of cattle.

in Okla. City is National Honor Society President and an All-State cheerleader. Her parents are Scott and Wendy Thompson. Ashley plans to attend medical school at OU after obtaining a biology degree. We wish them all the best time


in Washington, D.C. and have great hopes for their future. A big thank you goes to our


judges, community leaders who donated their time to help usher these young people into a grand future:


 Terri Helvey, Lexington High School principal is a seasoned


speech contest judge;


 Teddy Lehman, former All-American linebacker for the University of Oklahoma football team from 2002-2003 and current radio program host of "The Rush with Teddy Lehman and Dusty Dvoracek" on Sportstalk 1400; and


 Leslie Munhollon, English III and Psychology teacher at Bridge


Creek High School.
