ristol-based steam boiler specialist Fulton Limited has supplied Advanced Plasma Power (APP) with one of its Electropack EP60 steam boilers, which has almost tripled the steam capacity at the company’s Swindon-based Gasplasma® test facility.

Founded in 2005 to commercialise its internationally patented Switchtec beacons

vailable from specialist distributor Switchtec, the latest range of beacons from Sirena meet customers’ demand for smaller, more efficient, more compact alarms and beacons with brighter outputs, longer lasting bulbs and enhanced, ‘performance packed’ features. Sirena has completely re-developed its existing LED range of beacons, naming it the SMD LED range, using the latest surface mount LED technology. The new range will find favour with users in a wide range of applications including control automation, security applications, electric vehicles, evacuation/warning applications, automation,

establishments and in fact anywhere where a visual warning and/or an audible one is required. Use of the latest surface mount LED technology gives the SMD range low power consumption,

maintenance, high vibration resistance, 100,000 hours of life, excellent optical definition, improved light output, and multi function outputs. Both the Microlamp and the CTL products in the range take advantage of this technology to offer a combined flashing and continuous beacon in the same housing.

Gasplasma® technology, APP now claims to offer the optimum solution for converting municipal solid waste into clean, local energy – with minimal emissions and virtually no residues sent to landfill. The Swindon plant, which is essentially a smaller version of the commercial plants APP offers, is a test facility built to evaluate different types of wastes supplied by clients from various countries to optimise the Gasplasma® process and, subsequently, the viability of a plant for that specific location. A spokesperson for APP said: “Given the growing interest in the Gasplasma® process and subsequent increases in steam loads, we needed to upgrade our Fulton Electropack EP24 electric steam boiler. As it has been extremely reliable, and the larger EP60 model almost tripled our output to 92Kg per hour, buying another Fulton boiler was an easy decision.”

he Marsh Bellofram company have been appointed as UK distributors for the Shavo range of air preparation equipment, combining

durability and performance while representing excellent value for money. Shavo started manufacturing under licence with designs and drawings provided by C A Norgren Co, USA for their well established range of industrial pneumatic filters, regulators and airline lubricators including both the oil mist and micro mist versions. These are complemented by the Shavo range of FRL equipment including coalescing oil removal filters for breathing quality air. Stainless steel and precision filter regulators are also included for marine and other general corrosive or harsh condition applications. The products include the Norgren design 07, 17 and 18 series of FRL’s together with the series 13 range of plug-in equipment. These can be supplied in port sizes from 1/8” to 2” BSP covering flows from 6 to 1890 scfm.

Nitrogen for modified atmosphere packaging available practically FOC

he Nitrogen generators available from Hi-line Industries can be matched to individual site demand requirements of Nitrogen users to ensure maximum economy and performance. Nitrogen gas is commonly used throughout many industries where safe, inert environments are required. This includes the petroleum,

T chemical, pharmaceutical, paint and varnish

industries as well as the production of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, together with electronic and glass products. A growing demand is in the food processing sector where

Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) is used to prolong the freshness and shelf-life of food products by inhibiting the process of oxidation and decay. In normal environments, MAP treated salad products can have an extended shelf life of several days, with treated sandwich products viable for up to two weeks. Historically, Nitrogen used for processing applications has been supplied in tankers on a daily or weekly schedule for storage at the user site. However, escalating transportation and fuel costs have impacted on Nitrogen delivery costs and company carbon footprints to the extent where alternative, more cost effective Nitrogen supplies need to be sourced.

With the atmosphere comprising 72.3% Nitrogen, generation on site and on demand is a more

practical solution that the Nitrogen generators from Hi-line Industries are able to provide. With the Hi- line equipment, compressed air is generated and treated by drying to a -70°C dewpoint with all oil removed by activated carbon filters. This is then stored in an air receiver prior to entry into the Nitrogen generator on demand, when Oxygen and other trace element gases are also removed using the PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) principle. This involves a carbon molecular sieve medium which offers a shorter cycle time than a zeolite/desiccant. The Nitrogen from the generator is stored in a buffer tank at high purity levels (99.0% to 99.995%) awaiting process demand. The Oxygen and other trace gas molecules are discharged via exhaust silencers. The Hi-line Nitrogen generators are designed to match individual site usage requirements, and should not be confused with ‘fixed output’ equipment normally available from other suppliers, where operating costs can remain at uncommercially high levels irrespective of actual fluctuating or generally lower level Nitrogen requirements.

Norbar’s non-magnetic range extended

20 N.m version introduced late last year. Norbar TruTorque™ Non-magnetic Torque Wrenches have important applications in the medical field, specifically for MRI manufacture and maintenance, where there is the presence of a strong magnetic field. Using non-magnetic tools on MRI Scanners can avoid serious risk of injury to the operator and damage to sensitive and expensive equipment. Torque wrenches are used by factory

staff, installers and field based personnel working on the cable connections and sub assemblies around the magnet when it is energised. They are also used around the top of the magnet on the refrigeration sub assemblies,

valves and seals. In both cases the magnet is at full field.
