heads up TÜV SÜD Product Service’s UK machinery division and include details on how new technology is now driving the evolution of the Machinery Directive.
“The topic of how the Machinery Directive affects manufacturers and end-users is made even more important with the constant and frequent intro-
duction of new technology,” comments Paul Laidler. “Couple this with the fact that there is still a huge of amount of confusion and a grave lack of knowledge surrounding the Directive and it is clear that there is the need for further education”. Laidler Associates T: 0333 123 7777

Versatile screw and pneumatic conveyor solutions
The versatility of its flexible screw and pneumatic convey- ors will be the main focus of the Flexicon Europe stand where visitors will have the opportunity to see them both in action.
The company is also intro- ducing visitors its UK Test Laboratory Service where it can validate the performance of both pneumatic and flexible screw conveyor systems using a customer's actual bulk mate- rials. Such a major contributor to improving bulk material flow is Flexicon's flexible screw con- veyor, a totally enclosed system preventing contamination of the product and plant as well as preserving the moisture and temperature levels of the mate- rials being conveyed.

The conveyor can move material vertically, horizontally or to any angle - over, under or around obstructions.
Generally suitable for bulk materials transfer over longer distances is Flexicon's Pneumatic-Con dilute phase
pneumatic conveying system which is available in a choice of operational platforms - a vacuum system for transport- ing material from multiple sources such as storage ves- sels, process equipment, and trucks to multiple destina- tions; and a positive pressure system typically used for con- veying from a single source to one or multiple destinations. Recent developments that will be on show include the Single-Trip-Bag unloader, a Bag Compactor and Bulk Bag Conditioner which is designed to increase plant efficiency and productivity while improving site safety.

Sensing, scanning and vision devices
SICK (UK) will be showcasing its portfolio of industrial sensing, scanning, vision and safety devices including the recently launched LECTOR 620 code scanner. A compact 1D/stacked/2D barcode and
direct part making scanner, it combines four variants for different applications for code identification, traceability and anti-counterfeiting. “To mark the occasion, we will be giving visitors to our stand a chance to win a top of the range iPad 2,” says segment manager for commercial goods Glynn Edwards. “They simply need to bring their new application for any SICK products to the stand and their name will go into a free prize draw. At 3pm each day of the exhibi- tion, we will select a winner.”
SICK will also exhibit its new W9-3 small LED photoelectric sensor for a wide range of scanning duties featuring the new VISTAL housing, a reinforced, light plastic material offering the robustness and resistance of steel. Also on stand will
