FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2010 Television shales from C1
former president Bill Clinton, fit and felicitous as piped in from Arkansas. The encounter was hampered by annoying pauses and delays caused by a slothful satellite — and by a fleeting bit of embarrassment involving the term“zipper club.” King said that he and Clinton
were bothmembers of that fanciful aggregation, an unfortunate reference considering that, earlier, Seacrest had clumsily asked King whether the fly on his trousers had a zipper or buttons. A bit belatedly, King explained that the “zipper club” is formen who’ve had open- heart surgery. “I’mglad you clarified that,” Clinton said, with a forgiving smile. Auspiciously enough, four of
broadcast television’s best- known news anchors gathered in the New York studio to wish
TRIBUTE FROMTHETOP: President Obama took time to offer some praise and wish the host well.

Larry King eases into the sunset with all-star guests paying tribute on his final CNN show
King well: ABC’s Diane Sawyer, CBS’s Katie Couric, NBC’s Brian Williams and the godmother of themall, pioneering anchor BarbaraWalters of ABC (by way of NBC). The show’s director, however, strangely chose to delay a wide shot of this living Mount Rushmore of news — thusmuting the luster of having all four in the same place at the same time. Stillmore greetings from
celebrities, sent via Twitter, were run ticker-tape-style along the bottomof the screen, and an hour before the program, King tweeted that the red suspenders he’d be wearing were a gift from rock star Jon Bon Jovi — “thanks, Jon!” Good old Larry, name-dropping to the end. Although King is being
treated coldly by CNN, which is shoving himaside for a younger host despite King’s status as a television icon, he expressed no bitterness in his closing remarks
— a farewell to the faithful viewers who’ve watched him tussling with the famous, the infamous and the inexplicably adored. This was certainly no grandly
emotionalmoment to rank with Johnny Carson’s famous farewell in the early ’90s, but King’s unhurried style and in- depth approach were definitely assets and rarities. And it wasWilliams who got
off the best line, telling King that his next two guests were waiting in the wings: “Star Jones and Julian Assange.” In the absence of tears, or any real need for them, laughter was most welcome.

WIREIMAGE.COM HOLIDAYS: The Obamas celebrate “Christmas inWashington.”
HIGHLIGHTS Robin Roberts heads to Alaska
on “GoodMorning America” (ABC at 7 a.m.) to interview Sarah Palin, who talks about her latest book and life inWasilla. President Obama and the first

Even though Stacy and
Clinton cheerily try to show a sour, 26-year-old athletic trainer howmuch she has going for her on “What Not toWear” (TLC at 9), the woman remains cynical as the fashion experts attempt to give her a lifemakeover. In case youmissed CBS
specials “I Get That a Lot,” in which celebs such asHeidi Klum and ParisHilton try to fool unsuspecting people by posing as employees at a pizza store and gas station, respectively, you can see a 30-minute compilation of the show's highlights on CBS at 9:30. Is it really the end of the year
if no one was debating what was the best part? Getting in the countdown spirit, VH1 looks at the “Top 40 Videos of 2010” (at 9) in a two-hour special. Looking at the smaller
number of products “Made in America” these days, “Modern
Marvels” (History at 9) checks out what’s stillmade in this country, whichmeans a trip to a flagmanufacturer and another to a shoe factory. Fact: Some people have too
much stuff. However, this does not sit well with “lifestyle organizer” StarHansen, who helps families with cluttered households on “Stuffocating” (TLC at 10). The group takes a dangerous
journey to Tibet on “Sanctuary” (Syfy at 10), and Adamis very unhappy thatMagnus was allowed to go into the city without his supervision. Things are getting tense on
“Gold Rush: Alaska” (Discovery at 10), especially when the families come for a visit and are skeptical about the amount of gold that exists. “20/20” (ABC at 10) features a
special programcalled “Be the Change: Save a Life,” which reports on six health problems across the world and new technologies that could help some of the poorest nations. Actors DustinHoffman and
Robert De Niro unite for an interview on “Late ShowWith David Letterman” (CBS at 11:35),marking De Niro’s first time on the show. OwenWilson visits “The
Tonight ShowWith Jay Leno” (NBC at 11:35), along with actress Elle Fanning andmusical guests Lyle Lovett with Kat Edmonson.
