Alsup worked extremely hard to
win enactment of the MSRRA. At the podium, Alsup took a moment to tell a story about a woman who was 81/2 months pregnant who took a train, two buses, and cabs to at- tend a hearing on the spouse act. Afterward, this woman then visited Carter’s office to make sure he and his staff knew how grateful she was for their support. The evening ended all too quickly,
and those in attendance left with a renewed sense of MOAA’s value in in- fluencing the legislative process, what progress already has been made, and what still needs to be done to help the military community. MO
