FOCUS ON DAVID KOMA

How did it feel to see Cheryl Cole wearing one of your dresses on

X Factor?

“I was quite surprised! It always feels nice to see a beautiful and successful woman wearing your designs, but I just want every woman to feel fantastic in my clothes.”

Do you have your own favourite piece from this collection?

“No, because I consider each piece to be part of a bigger story and I love that whole story. All of the looks are strong but when you see them together, it’s complete.”

Where did your inspiration for the collection come from?

“My biggest inspiration is art and sculpture. I’ve always been very interested in metal sculptures and I think you can really see that throughout this collection. The metal chains inside some of the pieces can be easily moulded to create different, sculptural shapes. I like that contrast between hard and soft; to me that’s what femininity is.”

Is creating a collection which encapsulates women’s femininity important to you then?

“Absolutely; for me, designing is about worshipping the female form and my clothes are for women with shape. When Megan Fox was seen wearing one of my pieces that was brilliant, because she’s very curvy and that is the sort of woman I want to see wearing my clothes.”

Which other designers, and their work, do you admire?

“Mary Katrantzou – I really love her work, especially the prints. We are friends as well. We met while we were both studying at Central Saint Martins and have been close ever since.

You’ve had a brilliant year – what’s next?

This season, and all the feedback, was amazing, and I’m now just looking towards the future. After seeing all the shows I felt really inspired so I’ve already started to get my ideas together for my next collection. I can’t wait to start the process and get it out there.”
