Growth in the WGANC

By Sharon Bradford, WGANC President

THE WGANC started 2010

in the traditional way—re- gional meetings. All but one of our clubs sent representa- tives to the informative ses- sions. A total of 533 officers from 109 clubs attended breakout sessions designed to help the captain, ambas- sador, open day, tourna- ment, handicap and rules chairs with the jobs they have accepted. This board has hit the

ground running with some wonderful new ideas— the first a boutique with a few logo items that were previewed at each of the regional meetings. Two

license plate frames and a putter towel were very well received. This is a not-for- profit venture designed to further our name recogni- tion and get people talking about the WGANC. Any profit will be donated to the Junior Girls Transporta- tion Fund. Another exciting trial for

Open Days is a team event. This has been requested and we are going to try it at three clubs to see if it generates more interest. The first event was held at Peach Tree CC March 31; others are scheduled for Turlock CC May 20 and

Crow Canyon CC June 8. We are embracing some- thing that former NCGA staff member Gail Rodgers shared with us at Marin— the word G-R-O-W-T-H. Something I am sure that all clubs would like to see which, in turn, will benefit the WGANC. Each letter represents a philosophy that we feel will help. Our hope for the rest of

the year is that our industry experiences resurgence at the club level and through- out the state. We need to work together to make this happen.

This quality venue will offer our senior participants a memorable playing experience. Save the date for the resurrected Sierra Nevada Open (July 6-8) presented by partner Eldorado Hotel Casino Reno. This three-day open championship will be held at ArrowCreek Country Club and the Golf Club at Gray’s Crossing. Lastly, contact your local PGA professional regarding playing opportunities at your facility as well as

pro-am events happening throughout the region. The Friend of a

Cardmember Program, brought to you through a partnership with American Express and the PGA of America, provides Ameri- can Express card carriers the opportunity to take a private lesson from a PGA professional and bring a friend along at no extra charge. Search the data- base for a PGA profes- sional in your area and call to schedule a lesson. Your friend’s lesson will be free when you pay with your American Express Card. On behalf of the 1,100
