Each of the four major championships in 2009 had iPhone apps with services ranging from live scoring to full video action. Fans benefi t from course information including video fl yovers, live action of marquee groups and holes as well as live leaderboards with customization so you can follow your favorite players. Available through the iTunes store for free with the exception of the PGA, which costs $1.99.

Are reading greens a challenge?

BreakMeter, the golf green reader, is the perfect practice aid for golfers who fi nd reading greens a challenge. While not legal, the app can be used in a practice round where you won’t post your score. Place your iPhone on the green and it will tell you degrees downhill or uphill and the amount of left or right break. Use the app enough and your eyes might start seeing those subtle breaks by themselves. For the iPhone only, the app is priced at 99 cents.
