Seamount Life Cycle Most seamounts form in the same way. First, a volcano erupts. Melted rock is slowly pushed up through the seafloor. Te volcano grows as melted rock piles up and hardens.
Once the volcano stops erupting, it becomes a seamount. Over time, wind, water, and ocean currents wear away the rock, causing it to get smaller. Te seamount begins to settle and sink.
