Volcanic Peaks

Seamounts are found in all the world’s oceans. Most of them are found near “hotspots” in the ocean’s crust. Beneath these spots, melted rock called magma bubbles. It can erupt to form volcanoes.

Seamounts are usually old volcanoes. To be a seamount, the land must rise at least 1,000 meters above the seafloor.

mount

ts cover the ocean an currents move em. This creates ms in the ocean.

2. AT THE TOP Ocean water gets trapped in a spin. Small animals get held here. They become food for predators above the seamount.

1. UPWARD FLOW Ocean water hits the seamount’s base. It then pushes upward. The water carries nutrients to the surface. This feeds animals living nearby.
