To cross this open water, the team makes a raft from their sleds.


Underway Each morning, Jade melted ice. She fi lled bottles of water to carry during the day. T e polar climate is very dry. Water was needed for survival.


T en the team packed up their camp and started skiing. Each day, they aimed to ski for six hours. T ey took breaks but never stopped for long because they could freeze. T e team's progress wasn’t steady. T e weather and the ice were full of surprises.
