Opening its doors in November 1974 in the heart of Fort Worth’s cultural district, William Campbell Contemporary Art has been part of the city’s arts scene for over 40 years. With a focus on contemporary works—paintings, works on paper, photography and sculpture—the gallery represents a total of 36 artists, including Billy Hassell whose vibrant pieces are part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Project, and, most recently, Dutch artist Arno Kortschot with his dramat- ic, geometric abstract sculptures created from zinc and wood. This spring the gallery welcomes a new exhibit from Texas artist Frank X. Tolbert. His first show in the area for nearly a decade, Tolbert is known for paintings that portray various slices of life. Lately, however, he’s concentrated on curious winged creatures in what he’s calling the Texas Bird Project. Tolbert’s prints are fresh off the Flatbed Press and include ev- erything from a yellow-crowned night heron and hummingbird to a snowy egret, horned owl and chicken hawk. Tolbert’s Texas Bird Project can be viewed at William Campbell Contemporary Art beginning with an opening reception on Saturday, March 25. To learn more stop in or visit the website.
