ABB, Microsoft Form Partnership
BB (Zurich) and Microsoft Corp. (Redmond, WA) announced a partnership to help industrial customers create new value with digital solutions. The companies said in a statement
they are “committed to empowering digital transformation” in segments such as robotics, marine and ports, electric vehicles and renewable energy. “Together with ABB, we are pro- viding industrial customers with the digital technology and cloud platform to empower every person, team and business system within an organization to glean new insights and drive faster decision-making to seize new growth and opportunities,” Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft, said in the statement. “This partnership will provide unique benefits to our customers in utilities, industry, transport and infrastructure, building on the combined strength of Microsoft and ABB,” said ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer.

Rockwell Automation Acquires Maverick Technologies
ockwell Automation Inc. (Milwaukee) has acquired sys- tems integrator Maverick Technologies (Columbia, IL). The acquisition “significantly strengthens Rockwell Auto-
mation’s expertise in key process and batch applications,” the company said in a statement. “Industrial control and information solutions are most
effective when they result from close collaboration between a knowledgeable supplier and the user,” Ken Champa, Rockwell Automation senior vice president of Control Products and Solutions, said in the statement. “The combination of our global industrial automation leadership with Maverick’s platform-independent domain expertise
will help our customers reduce complexity and realize unprecedented productivity.”
Universal Robots President Named U
niversal Robots A/S, a Teradyne company and a maker of collaborative robots, named Jürgen von Hollen as president. He succeeds Enrico Krog Iversen who relinquished the post in June 2016 to pursue other interests, according to a statement. Von Hollen was most recently the executive president of the engineering solutions division, which includes the auto- mation and controls business of Bilfinger SE, in Mannheim, Germany, an international engineering and services company. In his role at Bilfinger he was responsible for a global staff of nearly 10,000 and annual sales in excess of €1 billion. Von Hollen began his career with Daimler-Benz aerospace and held senior management roles at Daimler-Chrysler Services, Deutsche Telecom and Pentair. He is based in Odense, Denmark.
