Smithfi eld FSC hosts benefi t show to celebrate life of former volunteer
Members of the Smithfi eld Figure Skat- ing Club (Smithfi eld, Rhode Island) came together on March 26 to celebrate the life and memories of longtime club member Larry Tedeschi, father of Elaria Tedeschi, an intermediate-level skater from Rhode Island.
Larry was a volunteer of the club who lost his battle with cancer in Novem- ber 2016. Produced by Elaria’s coaches Brad Vigorito and Bethany Cordeiro, and Smithfi eld FSC Vice President Jill Vigorito, the show was a benefi t for the America World Adoption Association, a charity that is dear to the Tedeschi family, as Elaria was adopted from China in 2003.
America World Adoption Association Ex- ecutive Director Joe Wilson attended the celebration. The show consisted of local, regional, sectional, and national-level skaters, including the 2017 U.S. juve- nile boys champion William Annis, who
performed his new short program to Spider-Man.
Richard Dornbush, the 2011 U.S. silver medalist, headlined the show. He volun- teered his time in support of the family. Dornbush, who wrapped up his fi nal ex- ams at the University of California at San Diego the day before the show, and will graduate with high honors in psychics and math in June, skated a new pro- gram to Toulouse’s “I Will Follow You.” He amazed the crowd with his eff ortless tri- ple jumps, fast spins and three backfl ips.
Elaria shared the ice with her coaches Beth Anne Duxbury, Vigorito and Cord- eiro, and skated to Enya’s “So I Could Find My Way.” The program opened with a voice-over by Elaria, speaking about her father and the sports lessons she learned from him. The event raised more than $9,000 for the America World Adoption Association, with more coming in.
