Duncan, a native of Fort Towson, said he is excited to return to southeast Oklahoma and is very positive about the future of Choctaw Electric Cooperative (CEC).

The CEC board of trustees hired Duncan following Kenneth Gates retirement announcement in March due to health reasons.

A native of Fort Towson, Duncan is familiar with southeast Oklahoma. He began his utility career in 2004 working as power plant operator at the Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) power plant in Hugo.

He later moved to Anadarko to work as safety and security coordinator at WFEC. In 2014, WFEC promoted Duncan to the position of commercial and industrial marketing manager.

pring brought new beginnings for Kooney Duncan. On May 1, he became the father of a new baby

In that role, he developed a knowledge and understanding of WFEC's 22 cooperative systems. His position entailed meeting often with WFEC's member co-ops to assist them with billing, outage response coordination, and rate questions. He also helped developed efficiency programs to benefit WFEC member systems and worked on the forecast, analysis and impact of wholesale rates on distribution co-ops.

"Kooney comes to us with 13 years of experience working for CEC's power supplier and other electric co- ops. With that experience, plus his familiarity with southeast Oklahoma, we believe he is highly qualified to lead Choctaw Electric Cooperative," said Brent Franks, president of the Choctaw Electric board of trustees.

Kooney graduated from Fort Towson High School and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he earned a bachelor of science (BS) in political science/occupational safety. Kooney and his wife, Lendy, have one girl, Beckett Marie and their newborn daughter, Leedy Jane, born May 1.

Welcome home, Kooney Duncan, CEC looks forward to your leadership!
