Ohio Facility Honored With Statewide Award Quaker City Castings, Salem,
Ohio, announced it has received the “President’s Company Award” from the Ohio Cast Metals Association, an honor that identifies Quaker City Castings as one of the state’s best
metalcasting facilities in Ohio. “We are incredibly honored to
receive this award,” said Geoffrey Korff, president, Quaker City Cast- ings. “We have strived to improve our facility in a number of ways, including safety, efficiency, and ca-

pacity increases. We certainly don’t do it for accolades, but it’s nice once in a while to get some recognition.” Quaker City Castings pours steel,
iron and nickel-alloy using the no- bake molding process and operates a full-service machine shop.
CORRECTIONS According to authors David Weiss,
Eck Industries Inc., and John Berry, Mississippi State University, the ten- sile data presented in the March 2016 Modern Casting article, “Boosting Aluminum-Silicon’s Strength, Ductil- ity in a Permanent Mold Casting” and the referenced paper are incorrect due to measurement error. Te microstruc- tures illustrated show the refinement effects of Ba. However, the effects on mechanical properties of this modifi- cation require additional experimenta- tion and re-testing. Te article “Would Scuba Diving Be
As Fun?” in the June 2016 edition of Modern Casting contained an error. For a diver with an exposure suit, the depth at which negative buoyancy is achieved may be a bit deeper—around 15-20 ft. Below that, they become increasingly negative and require less weight. Te increasing water pressure with greater depth compresses the equipment and the exposure suit displaces less water. Te diver is less buoyant and requires less weight as they descend.
