OBITUARIES


Cesare Frigo died June 11, 2015. He had a 50-year career in the met- alcasting industry, most recently as the managing di- rector of Space Srl, Torino, Italy. Frigo started the company, which manufactures a range of convey- ors, screens and green sand mixers, with his brother in 1979. Richard Smart died April 22,

2015. He was 78. He was a service life member of the American Foundry Society.


NEWSCAST Neenah Enterprises Inc. (NEI),


Neenah, Wis., recently added a $750,000 industrial radioscopic system at the Neenah Plant Two. NEI made the equipment purchase to improve productivity and quality inspections during its internal casting process. Neenah Foundry produces gray and ductile iron castings for its industrial and municipal customers with a capac- ity of 185,000 tons.


Grede, Southfield, Mich., an- nounced plans to idle its casting facility in Berlin, Wis., in June. Providing 60-day notice to the site’s 135 employees, the plant is set to be idled this month. Grede eliminated 77 jobs last summer, with the company citing a downturn in its business. Te 354,000-sq.-ft. casting facility produc- es iron castings for engine components, manifolds, pump bodies and water works hardware.


St. Cloud State University, St


Cloud, Minn, will partner with Grede, Southfield, Mich., to help train employees thanks to a $335,000 grant from the Minnesota Depart- ment of Employment and Economic Development. For the next three years, St. Cloud State staff will develop a new program to provide entry-level and advanced training for more than 400 Grede employees at its St. Could facility.
