Michigan Senator Visits Eagle Alloy In July, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabe-
now (D-Michigan) visited Eagle Alloy Inc. (Muskegon, Michigan). T e visit was part of a tour touting the im- portance of numerous growing small businesses in areas across the state. Jeff Cook, vice president–sales
and marketing, Eagle Alloy, appreci- ated the visit. “It was a pleasure hosting Senator
Stabenow to hear about her eff orts to grow small businesses in Michigan, to thank her for her eff orts on our behalf in the past and to communicate to her the never-ending regulatory challenges we continue to face as metalcasters.” Cook said in a news release. “We look forward to working with her to continue removing roadblocks that put Michigan companies at a disadvantage on the global stage.” According to local reports, Staben- ow spoke with co-owners John Work-
man and Mark Fazakerley, and came away impressed with Eagle Alloy. “Skilled workers are incredibly
important,” Stabenow said, according to
MLive.com. “Skilled welders or
electricians or machinists are involved in the very foundations of making things. T ese are actually exciting jobs and we need to expose young people to the opportunities in these fi elds.”

Walz Honors Dotson Iron Castings
U.S. Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minne-
sota) recently visited Dotson Iron Castings (Mankato, Minnesota) and honored the facility for its hiring of veterans. According to the Mankato Free
Press, Dotson president and CEO Jean Bye said 25 of the 140 employees at the facility have served in the military. “Before it was popular to hire
veterans, this company had been doing that for a number of years,” Walz said, according to the Free Press. T e report said Walz toured the

and recognize those companies that have been doing this,” Walz said, ac- cording to the Free Press. Dotson’s staff was presented with
an “I Hire Veterans” certifi cation. “We don’t have a culture that does
things for recognition. We do things be- cause they’re the right thing to do,” Bye said. “So it’s nice when it comes back.”
