Revved Up Crankcase Relies on A206


Cast Component: Crankcase prototype. Material: A206. Process: 3-D printed sand.


Application: Engine crankcase for racing.


Casting Supplier: Eck Industries Inc. (Manitowoc, Wisconsin).


Dimensions: 5 x 15 x 19 in.


• Using 3-D printing for the sand molds avoided 10 weeks of leadtime and $60,000 for tooling.


• Alloy A206 was chosen for its high mechanical properties.


• Printed core surfaces do not require any draft, so the part weight and wall thicknesses are maintained as designed.
