Waupaca Earns Certifi cation, Incentive Waupaca Foundry (Waupaca,


Wisconsin), a Hitachi Metals Group company, has been given an ISO 50001 Energy Management System certifi cation. Waupaca also received a $100,000 incentive from Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy program. According to a news release, the


Waupaca-based gray iron facility is the fi rst metalcaster in the U.S. to receive the ISO 50001 Energy Management System certifi cation, which came as a result of conservation initiatives at one of Waupaca’s gray iron facilities in the city. T ose initiatives also brought the $100,000 incentive from the state. Mike Hoecker, energy manager, said ISO 50001 certifi cation is a milestone in the company’s sustainability program. “With the energy management


structure developed, as well as lessons learned during the process, obtaining certifi cation at our other facilities will be much easier and effi cient, thereby accelerating our sustainability progress and competitiveness,” Hoecker said. In a news release, Waupaca

Yankee Casting Looking to Rebuild


Yankee Casting (Enfi eld, Connect- icut) is looking to restore its facility after a March fi re. According to the Journal-Inquirer, about 15,000 sq. ft. of the building was destroyed, but the company is now planning for an addition of 20,160 sq. ft. T e report said Yankee presented its plan to an area commission for ap- proval in November and was unani- mously approved. Yankee is a nonferrous sand caster


that produces castings for aerospace companies. It was founded in 1961, and the facility has had several addi- tions over that time. “We’re wondering when the


shovels will hit the ground,” Tim Vec- chiarelli, co-owner and secretary, said according to the Journal-Inquirer. “It should start soon.” 

energy comes with an annual price tag of about $180,000,000 across all Waupaca Foundry locations. “We are setting the pace in our
