GOLD, BRONZE & STEEL CASTING HEADED FOR THE GRIDIRON
Last fall, the College Football Playoff unveiled the new trophy that was presented in January to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the national champion of the NCAA’s Division I Football Bowl Subdivision.
Created by international de sign consultancy Pentagram, the trophy was commissioned and handcrafted by fi ne art foundry Polich Tallix, Rock Tavern, N.Y. Craftsmen at the foundry worked for three months, combining cutting-edge technologies with timeless metalcasting and fi nishing techniques to create the trophy.
The two-piece casting features a life-sized football that rises from the center of the base. Made from 24-karat gold, bronze and
stainless steel, the trophy stands 26.5 in. tall and weighs 35 lbs. The base is bronze with a heat-applied black patina fi nish, measuring 12 in. tall and weighing 30 lbs.
