Cast Component: Double suction impeller. Material: Martensitic stainless steel. Process: Investment casting.


Application: Heavy-duty single-stage pump.


Casting Supplier: Tech Cast LLC, Myerstown, Pa. Casting Customer: SPX, Charlotte, N.C.


• T e casting supplier used 3D drawings and stereolithography rapid prototype technology to cut lead time in half, from 12 weeks to six.


• Compared to those produced via green sand, the investment cast- ings reduced machining, welding, and grinding requirements for the 500-lb. impeller.


• T e impellers, measuring 30 in. in diameter, were extensively tested and found to be defect free.
