53rd NCGA Senior Net Championship Poppy Hills | June 6-7

12th NCGA Women’s Amateur Championship Poppy Hills/Black Horse | June 13-14

New Mexico State’s Camille Orito caught fire, posting a first

round women’s course record 6-under 66 at Poppy Hills en route to a nine-stroke win. Orito, who finished third in the 2015 championship, had

a second round 73 to finish with a two-day score of 5-under 139, also a new record. The previous competitive women’s low on the new Poppy

Hills, which played as a par-72 due to hole No.16 (normally a par-4) being converted to a par-5, had been a 69 posted by Alyaa Abdulghany at the 2015 CIF Girls’ State Champion- ship. The previous low two-day total for the championship had been 142, held by former winners Devon Brown (2011) and Audra Kepler (2014). Emily Laskin of Elk Grove and UC Davis sophomore

Big Sur Flight Ken Rhodes, 71-67–138

Samantha Hutchison finished tied for second at 148. In the Senior Championship, Rocklin’s Lynne Cowan also

had a record showing. Cowan shot a final round 1-over 73 to finish not only with an eight shot win, but a record two-day total of even-par 144. The previous Senior women’s low two-day total had been 148, shot by Cowan when she won the title in 2014. With the victory, Cowan joined Marianne Towersey (2007, 2012) and record three-time winner Pat Cornett (2009, 2010, 2015) as the only players to have two or more Senior crowns. Runner-up Karen Garcia, the defending U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur champion, shot 78 to finish at 152.
