Bunkers: The Great Escape

Tip 1– SET FOR SUCCESS

The biggest secret to hitting consistent sand shots is all in the set-up. Create a wide stance with the ball and your weight forward. Open the face so that the grooves point somewhere between the toe and heel of your front foot. Finally make sure your shoulders are nice and level as well. These adjustments will allow you to hit 1-2 inches behind the ball, while making the club head skip through the sand with ease.

Tip 2– FOLD ‘EM UP

To get your strike point really accurate, it’s best to play sand shots with a slightly more narrow swing arc. Whereas a longer arm position works well on wedge shots, swinging the club head too low to the ground in the sand can lead to a hit that’s a little too far behind the ball. To get really dialed in, allow your arms to fold more into your chest in the back swing and then again into the finish. This compressed arc along with an open clubface creates a precise bottom to the swing, adding consistency to your sand game.
