4. KORCULA, AN ISLAND OF COVES & HILLS Today’s destination is the Adriatic island of Korcula, birthplace of famed 13th-century explorer Marco Polo. Join our local guide on a walking tour of Korcula’s walled town to see the Museum of Icons in the church, the Cathedral of St. Mark, and the town’s most famous house on what may have been the site of the Polos’ family home. A highlight of your day is a private Moreska sword dance presentation choreographing a Moroccan folk story. This traditional art form dates back to the 15th century and is only performed here. 5. COLORFUL CROATIA – SIBENIK & SPLIT Le Lyrial docks this morning in Sibenik, Croatia, for a visit to the Cathedral of St. James. A Gothic masterpiece of white stone decorated with sculptured heads believed to be Sibenik townspeople of the time, it is an impressive Renaissance building and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A drive along the Adriatic coast leads to the natural wonders of Krka National Park, where the Krka River flows through a limestone gorge, morphing into a stunning array of pools and waterfalls; enjoy a short interpretive walk with time to explore on your own. Continue to the port city of Split for a visit to the Mestrovic Gallery and a walking tour of the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of Diocletian’s Palace, built in the 4th century AD.
