Laser and diodes Viron

Quantel Laser has launched the Viron diode-pumped Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, designed for high efficiency in a robust, compact package. The Viron delivers up to 30mJ at 1,064nm in an 8ns pulse at a repetition rate of 20Hz. It is ideal for Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The company has also released a

very high energy, short pulse Laser Diode Illuminator product, optimised for use as an ultrasonic generator for photoacoustic imaging applications. Available in wavelengths from 640 to 1,570nm, the device is finding use in active imaging and 3D scanner applications.

PicoBlade 2

Lumentum has reduced the size of its PicoBlade ultrafast laser, which provides additional capabilities in a footprint 50 per cent smaller than its predecessor. PicoBlade 2 offers FlexBurst and MegaBurst functionality for users to split the energy of a single pulse (single pulse mode) into a group of pulses (burst mode). Correctly aligning this capability with the type of material processed can

Spirit-NOPA-IR

Spectra-Physics has introduced Spirit-NOPA-IR, a high peak power, tunable long infrared wavelength ultrafast source for three-photon imaging. Pumped with the Spirit industrial femtosecond laser, the new source generates 10MW peak power and ultrashort 80fs pulses with tunable wavelengths from 1,200nm to 1,600nm. Imaging with this new source results in exceptional clarity in live tissue at depths of up to 1mm, ideal for neuroscience, embryology, and other bio-imaging research. Long infrared wavelengths and use of the three-

Accessories SolsTiS-EMM

M Squared Lasers has launched its new External Mixing Module (SolsTiS-EMM), designed to complement the company’s ‘SolsTiS’ CW narrow linewidth Ti:Sapphire laser.

SolsTiS-EMM enables access to previously hard to reach wavelengths in the UV, visible and IR regions, while also featuring the narrow linewidth, ease of use and ultra-stable output for which SolsTiS is well-known. This new addition now gives M Squared’s SolsTiS platform wavelength coverage

from 210nm to 3.2µm, achieved through a variety of extensions which feature doubling, sum frequency and difference frequency mixing schemes. In particular, this all-solid state, hands free solution for wavelength coverage now supersedes dye lasers, removing the hazards and instabilities associated with this toxic gain material. SolsTiS is a super-compact system with a completely sealed, alignment-free cavity unique to M Squared. www.m2lasers.com

The illuminator comprises a single QCW laser diode stack, the driver, and the power supplies integrated into a compact 2 x 2 inch package. The QCW diode can be collimated in the fast axis, resulting in typical beam divergence of around 1 x 8 degree.

In addition, Quantel Laser has launched a high peak power 640nm diode stack targeted at applications in ophthalmology, photoacoustic imaging, and DPSSL pumping. These products offer performance of up to 2kW peak power at

640nm in a diode stack, 50W peak power (or 16W CW) in 400μm fibre coupled package, and 30W peak power (10W in CW) in 200μm core fibre. www.quantel-laser.com

further minimise heat effect and increase the ablation rate from the cutting sample. The laser also has a function called AccuTrig, giving accurate triggering function for on-the- fly processing capabilities. In addition, Sync enables precise timing control for operating with high-speed galvo or line scanners. pumped with the Spirit laser delivers the high peak powers necessary for three-photon generation at long infrared wavelengths of 1,200-1,600nm, while operating at moderate average powers to avoid damage to the live tissue. An optional SHG output is available for 600nm to 800nm wavelengths. www.spectra-physics.com
