PRODUCT UPDATE Laser and diodes Multimode laser diode 808nm VCSEL arrays

Princeton Optronics has introduced two new products of high brightness, high power 808nm VCSEL arrays. The brightness levels of these arrays are comparable to the high brightness edge emitting lasers.

One product is a chip on submount, based on recent results of power densities of 3.5kW/ cm2

and delivering more than 800W of optical

output power in QCW mode from a single chip of 4.5mm x 4.5mm. The array can be focused into a 1.3mm spot into the Nd:YAG crystal for end or side pumping. The CW power from the array is >250W. VCSEL arrays can be tiled together in series for more output power, and recent results show a tile of four quarter circle VCSEL arrays chips can output more than 3kW in QCW modes. The diameter of the emission area is 10mm and can be focused into 3mm area into the Nd:YAG crystal.

Princeton Optronics’ High Brightness 808nm VCSEL arrays exhibit electrical-optical efficiencies of more than 50 per cent peak efficiencies at room temperature, and offer >40 per cent peak efficiencies at 60°C. The temperature dependence of these devices are 0.07nm/°C. This efficiency over temperature can make the total system cooling easier and more cost efficient, while still delivering high output power. www.princetonoptronics.com

Eagleyard’s 808nm broad area semiconductor laser diode delivers 20W peak power under pulsed operation from a single emitter. Its high pulse energy and fast rise time

makes this laser diode ideally suited for high resolution sensing applications in extreme harsh environments.

The diode benefits from: 10μs pulse width at 25kHz repetition rate; operation at -40°C to +80°C, available in a hermetically sealed 9mm TO- housing; and available with fast axis collimation.

LT-PLM green laser

Laser Components’ range of LT-PLM Precision Laser Modules are now available with a green laser.

Green lasers are common for alignment and positioning applications as green laser spots and lines are very sharp and crisp over a wide range of operational distances.

PL520B

ProPhotonix has released the new 520nm PL520B from Osram. The PL520B has an output power of 80mW and offers an ideal solution for applications such as laser projection, laser shows, holography, metrology and biomedical applications. The new laser diode delivers superior beam quality due to Osram’s ‘Brilliant Beam Technology’,

DLC TA-SHG Pro LDM-XT series

Lasos has released its latest generation of laser diode modules. Based on extensive voice-of- customer activity, this modular concept allows flexibility in optical and electronic configuration for both OEM and Laboratory applications. The new platform delivers possibilities for highly customised options in a compact design. Product options include both free-space and single mode fibre beam delivery, direct modulation to 300MHz and wavelengths from 375 to 830nm at power levels up to 250mW. Units can be specified with a spectral width of 1nm, enhanced M2

value or

speckle homogenisation. The products also work with many of the

company’s diode-pumped solid-state lasers, and as many as 8 wavelengths can be combined into integrated, multi-laser light engines. Lasos has an extremely large installed base, including both individual lasers and light engines. www.lasos.com

Toptica has released a new class of multi-watt laser sources for use in the laboratory, but also opening up opportunities for future OEM integration. Based on the TA-SHG Pro product line, a resonantly frequency-doubled tapered amplified diode laser, more than 2W of single frequency output covering the spectral range from 550nm to 565nm is now available. The leap towards higher power levels is possible due to proprietary tapered amplifier technology, modified electrical and thermal management, and further improvements of the frequency-doubling resonator technology. With a tunability of several nanometres, mode-

SMD laser

Excelitas has released the Surface Mount 905nm Pulsed Semiconductor Laser (SMD Laser), offering the capability of automated pick-and-place high- volume assembly. The SMD design delivers higher beam placement accuracy than a lead-frame, plastic packaged laser at comparable price points. The new lasers can emit light either perpendicular or parallel to the mounting plane to meet the

The product family offers wavelengths between 650 and 1,120nm. The output power range is between 1 and 18W in CW mode – in pulse mode up to 100W. These laser diodes are used for sensing in space and defence applications, material processing, medical applications, lidar or solid-state laser pumping. The company has also launched a single frequency laser diode, the RWS- 760, introduced as a cost effective and compact alternative for oxygen detection.

which improves the far field beam profile, enhancing the image quality in projection applications. The performance is very stable over a broad range of temperatures, making the diode well suited to applications with demanding environmental conditions. hop-free scanning of 30GHz and a linewidth of less than 100kHz, the laser source allows numerous applications in quantum technologies. Similar performances are achieved around 400nm, 430nm and 480nm. The TA-SHG Pro product line covers a

wavelength range of 316nm to 675nm with only few gaps and maximum power levels of 2W. www.toptica.com

demand for high-volume, cost-effective lasers for commercial applications, including lidar, time-of-flight (ToF), range finding, safety light curtains, adaptive cruise control, and laser therapy. Featuring a multi-layer monolithic design, the semiconductor lasers produce high optical pulses centred at 905nm. The laser diode chip is encapsulated for excellent thermal management. www.excelitas.com
