EOS events: awards, elections and meetings
he European Optical Society has announced two new Early Career awards: the Early Career Entrepreneur in Photonics award, which honours an individual who has made outstanding technical and/or innovative contributions to the photonics industry; and the Early Career Women in Photonics award that recognises a young female scientist who has made excellent contributions to photonics. Both awards consist of a diploma and an honorarium of €2,500. Prizes will be presented at the EOS biennial meeting (EOSAM) in Berlin, Germany, which will be

European Optical Society biennial meeting (EOSAM) 2016 EOSAM will take place in Berlin on 26-30 September 2016, coinciding with EOS’ 25th anniversary. A selection of meetings are to be held at the
event: Silicon Photonics and Guided-Wave Optics; Freeform Optics; Optical System Design and Tolerancing; Diffractive Optics; Trends in Resonant Nanophotonics; Frontiers in Optical Metrology; Organic and Hybrid Semiconductor Materials and Devices; and Adaptive Optics and Advanced Illumination Imaging. The event will also include the sessions ‘Grand Challenges of Photonics’ and ‘EU

Attend the 5th EOS Topical Meeting on Terahertz Science & Technology (TST 2016) TST will take place in Pecs, Hungary (Hotel Palatinus) on 8-12 May.
Conference topics include: THz radiation emission; detection of THz radiation; THz integrated optics, waveguiding, plasmonics, metamaterials, photonic crystals; Interaction of THz radiation with matter; Nonlinear phenomena induced by THz radiation; THz far-field and near-field imaging, THz microscopy and microspectroscopy; remote sensing of gases and chemical/biological agents; and THz applications. Rupert Huber (University of Regensburg, Germany) will be giving a talk titled ‘sub-cycle terahertz physics: from ultrastrong to ultrasmall’.
