NEWS FROM YLLÄS 2017 Updated ski trail map and app Previously, the Ylläs trail groomers
were monitored in real time from a web page. As this service was end- ing, the trail maintenance company stepped in to provide a new one. T is change took place when the
Ylläs ski trail map went online. As part of a wider ski trail service concept, a 10 euro fee (per person per season) is payable to cover trail maintenance, development and online monitoring expenses. Introduced by public demand, this
new online service complements the paper map, which is still on sale. As well as the maps, the fee includes
a web-based feature to access live trail maintenance info with location services that pinpoint the user, trail groomers, rest areas and trail-side campfi res. Although primarily a ski trail map,
this app with its sat nav location fea- ture is also useful for snowshoers and others new to the area. A similarly-priced online snow-
mobile service is also available with snowmobile trail maps. Don’t forget to take the paper map
with you, as your smartphone battery might give up in the middle of your
6
trip, even if you don’t... Proceeds from the ski trail and snow-
mobile services will still be used for trail network upkeep. So it’s worth remem- bering that buying a cheaper imitation will simply channel your money away from the ski trails.
