COTLEY TITHE BARN: GROUNDED DRAWING, PAINTING, INSTALLATION, FILM AND SOUND

Hard, soft, dusty, muddy, grassy, stony ground. Dig deep into the dark, soft earth, silent and damp. Look below the surface, get your hands dirty. Reaching to the depths, hidden precious metals, like beetles, glinting and gleaming. Feet on the ground, head in the clouds, looking down we become grounded.

Alice Crane: Landing, mapping and treading softly, exploring an island nature reserve.

Tim Martin: Groundworks formed by creatures that inhabit specific sites from the local ecology.

Michael Calver: Memory laden paintings that evoke contingent situations of despair.

Jenny Mellings: New work based on encounters with natural phenomena, the unexplained and the fantastical in rural areas of Somerset, given substance by painting with local earth pigment, and other media.

Liz Gregory: An ambitious project based on a scrap of discarded black bale wrap which has been rescued, re-

housed and re-hung, resulting in a large scale drawing, a giant map with a force of its own.

Jenny and Liz are supported by SAW’s Artist Development Programme (see page 47).

Meet the artist: Sunday 29 September, 11am - 3pm PV: Saturday 21 September, 7 - 9pm
