In just five years SMK has witnessed a massive swing in the popularity of synthetic stocks on

air rifles, with sales shifting from around 10 per then, to 60 per cent synthetic today. What’s driving this change?

W 28 | Tackle & Guns | Dec / Jan 18

hatever your persuasion regarding synthetic stocks on guns, we believe

that a fair amount of abuse could become apparent on your rifl es in the fi eld, especially handling in slippery conditions, the synthetic stock takes a knock much better than wood, is that the reason for their popularity? It is fair to say synthetic is versatile and lighter than it’s counter part, can be more well balanced, the look can be

sleek with still highly detailed chequering which has been moulded-in to add grip value compared with the wood chequering can be only surface deep. The synthetic stock can offer

sculptured fore ends, handgrips in sleek designs, adjustable cheek pieces and/ or even both to suit your particular rifl e handling position… but the end choice can only be answered by personal preference. If you favour the more traditional wood fi nish,

these come in a variety of styles, standard sporter, thumbhole and some take down models. With very little price difference (if any) these days it really is a buyer’s market! What’s your choice? Wood or synthetic? We’d love to hear your thoughts on why the market is rapidly changing... or whether you’ve noticed no change at all?
