HOROSCOPE By Quinn

ARIES (March 21st to April 19th) If you get the opportunity to take on new and weightier responsibilities, grab it with both hands. You badly need a new and exciting challenge and you do have energy to spare. You have been under the weather recently and this may have left you feeling a bit low. The combination of new fi elds of endeavour, plus an improvement in your physical well-being, will set the seal on some very successful and profi table enterprises.

TAURUS (April 20th to May 20th) Your fortunes are a bit in fl ux just now. A lot of things seem to be either going wrong or just not coming up to expectations. Don’t worry too much about this, it really isn’t as serious as it would seem at fi rst sight. What you must not do is look on it as a symptom of your own inadequacy because nothing could be further from the truth. The cards are stacked against you that’s all, this will soon pass for better times.

GEMINI (May 21st to June 21st) Follow your instincts in matters of the heart. Could be you ought to turn your back on the opportunity and leave well alone? If you are already attached, this could be the only way. If you are free though, it is another matter entirely. You must be sure however, that a permanent tie-up is what you want just now because that is what the person concerned has in mind, and they won’t settle for less.

CANCER (June 22nd to July 22nd) You must exert your authority somewhat, especially at the beginning of next week. A small group of youngsters could be trying to challenge your right to take control. If you let them get away with this once, you will never effectively get your hands on the reins again. Health-wise you are a little under par. Try a herbal tonic of some sort. You need a lift, but be sure to take advice from someone with expert knowledge in this fi eld.

LEO (July 23rd to August 22nd) If you keep your temper at the beginning of this week, you stand to have a happy fortnight ahead. Let rip however and you will cloud the next two weeks. Try to see the other’s point of view especially if you are jointly involved in a project of some sort. Money making ideas will come to you next week but be careful. There is a great possibility your ability to cope with extra pressures is so low that you could wreck your ability to deal with things.

VIRGO (August 23rd to September 22nd) If you want to make a point with a superior, you will have to get your facts right fi rst. Going in boots fi rst, without preparation will only make you look foolish. On the home front, you ought to see to some routine matters that you have been neatly avoiding for a while. If you only knew the expense further delay of this could cost, you would set to now, and without delay!

LIBRA (September 23rd to October 23rd) If you get past the fi rst part of this week without a row with someone close, you will be doing very well. Don’t rise to any bait that is offered. You might end up saying what is better left unsaid. Force an issue connected with your future if someone seems to be hiding facts. It doesn’t really matter what the outcome is, the important thing is that you should be fully aware of events and just as fully prepared for all eventualities.

SCORPIO (October 24th to November 22nd) You could be subject to quite a lot of emotional stress this coming fortnight. You are apt to over-react to certain news and this is not good for you. Try to be more objective in your attitude to what is going on around you. That way you will fi nd what is happening is perfectly reasonable, which of course it is. Take time for more attention to home matters. You need to get away from the hurly-burly of your job for a while.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd to December 21st) If you believe all you hear right now, you will end up completely paranoid. Sort out wheat from chaff; truth from fable, charity from mischief. Watch what you say on any subject yourself and you will avoid all unnecessary aggravations. You should be paying a visit to and old friend soon. You have neglected what is really a duty and if you don’t attend to it, you will fi nd yourself regretting this quite a lot.

CAPRICORN (December 22nd to January 20th) There is just a chance that your fi nances could be about to improve radically over the coming two weeks. You have been a bit spendthrift lately and you are on the short side. Don’t go mad and spend unexpected income without careful forethought. Lean times are for ever just around the corner and something for a rainy day is just what you need. Look to the young for consolation in a loss. They do have a more philosophical outlook than you.

AQUARIUS (January 21st to February 19th) Watch out for the unexpected during the coming couple of weeks. There are several things about to happen that you will fi nd both surprising and diffi cult to cope with. One of these is connected with the health of your partner. This particular problem will take some time to clear up and you will have to be very self-suffi cient in the meantime. Although this might not be your fi rst choice, your best plan now would be to seek help from another branch of the family.

PISCES (February 20th to March 20th) Take a fi rm hold of your emotions immediately. You are not totally in control of events and you need a certain amount of self-possession in order to cope with the undue stresses and strains of the situation. Don’t succumb to a hard luck tale. You need all you have for your own purposes. Give it away and you only have yourself to blame if you end up short. Follow advice from a young relative because now they know more than you.

Sowing The Seeds For Summer March brings some sunny days to tempt

gardeners back into the garden and many of us are really aching for Spring now. This is the month for sowing seeds and getting the garden ready for the summer months ahead, which includes a general tidy up and some essential pruning. Pruning is not only

therapeutic for

plants, but gardeners as well – getting rid of all that dead wood and preparing for new growth and fl owers. You need to remove dead, diseased or damaged stems from roses. Shrubs and climbers will also need pruning to encourage good, healthy growth.

Seed sowing should be at the top of your ‘to do’ list at the moment. Give seeds soil that is wet and warm enough and off they go, and the bigger the seed the deeper it needs to be in the soil to germinate. Some seeds can be sown direct into the ground, such as vegetables, whilst some prefer to be in seed trays and a slighter warmer environment to be given a good fi ghting chance.

March is also a good planting time for more mature plants, so think ahead to not just Summer but Autumn as well and try to plan your planting for all year round colour in the garden. For a bit of instant colour you could think about a hanging basket. A simple garden solution for March is to create your own hanging basket in the colour scheme of your choice mixing hardy annuals with small evergreen shrubs for all year round interest. Although most baskets are planted in early spring and put outdoors after the risk of frost has passed, they can also be fi lled with frost hardy fl owers and tough evergreens for colour over winter. Don’t forget to water regularly and boost growth with a weekly liquid feed. A plant perfect for winter baskets and containers is the Vinca, which is part of the periwinkle family. Vinca minor is also a favourite with gardeners for providing ground cover and can be planted in smaller beds and borders. It’s a great way of providing cover for poor, dry and slightly shady garden areas and its creeping and arching stems soon make an attractive carpet of bright green foliage. The small sky-blue fl owers appear in spring and Vinca will grow in most soil types but like most other plants, requires good drainage. Spring seems tantalizing close in March and work in the garden starts to get going again. Here are some jobs you should be thinking about this month … • Start to prune roses removing dead damaged or diseased stems • Tidy up the lawn • Keep your eyes peeled for weeds and slugs • Sow vegetable seeds and plant potatoes • Start composting • Start conserving water • Repot houseplants
