recently held
their fi rst Table Cricket Tournament for children from special schools at the SSE Swalec. The fi nal was between Heronsbridge School from Bridgend and Woodlands School from Ely. The winning team, Woodlands School, will represent the region at a national table cricket competition held at Lord’s in June. The tournament took place as part of a new partnership between the charity and Glamorgan County Cricket Club. The Lord’s Taverners has invested in the partnership with the club to roll out a coaching programme in local special schools to coach pupils in table cricket, giving children the opportunity to play
a sport that they would not usually have access to. Table cricket is played on a table tennis table. Side panels and sliding fi elders are placed around the table to create an arena, a small ball and ramp are used to bowl, and a wooden bat enables players to score runs, simulating a game of cricket.
Chair of Lady Taverners Wales, Jane John said: “Table cricket is a fantastic version of the game that allows people of all abilities particularly
to participate. It was heart-warming to see
the children integrating and shaking hands at the end of the tournament, demonstrating the power and value that playing sport has.

Extending this helicopter’s operating hours from fi ve days per week will mean that all four of the charity’s aircrafts will now run seven days a week.
All aspects of the seven-day transfer service - from the crew to the kit on board - will be entirely funded by the Wales Air Ambulance with no government or lottery funding. The extra operating hours will mean that the charity can help save more lives across Wales. Angela Hughes, chief executive of Wales Air Ambulance, said they had been keen to move to a

“The fourth aircraft initially operated fi ve days a week and was dedicated to providing urgent hospital transfers for babies, children and adults. By extending the service, we can now schedule in more transfers, helping more people across the country. “Thanks to the generous donations we’ve been receiving since we were established sixteen years ago, we are able to continually improve and enhance our service.
