NEW HOMES • NEW DEVELOPMENTS Housebuilders donation to help chernobyl children

A leading housebuilder is helping children affected by the Chernobyl Disaster by funding four weeks respite in Swansea. Almost 31 years on from the biggest nuclear catastrophe of the 20th century, two million people in Belarus – of whom 500,000 are children – still live in heavily contaminated zones. Consequently the children are subject to develop thyroid gland cancer, Leukaemia and brain tumours as well as suffering kidney, liver and heart problems. A short period away from the radiation can help boost their immune system – and Persimmon Homes West Wales has made a £1,000 donation to the charity Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline to do just that.

Peter and Gloria Wrixon were volunteers hosting children but now they raise funds for the project instead. Mr Wrixon said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this donation from Persimmon Homes, which will help to pay for two children to visit from Belarus.

“Age nine to 11 is the best time for children to visit. The healthy food and fresh air gives them a much better chance of living a healthier life. “Of course, this all costs money as we have to pay for their Visas, transport and day trips. This gift from Persimmon will be a big help.”

The donation comes as part of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme. Each month, the national housebuilder donates up to £2,000 to community groups and good causes in every one its 29 regional business. That’s a total of almost £700,000 a year.

Groups apply for funding by visiting www.persimmonhomes.com/charity and then it’s down to Persimmon’s managing directors to select their winners. Sharon Robinson, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We’re delighted to be able to make this donation to Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline. “Anyone over 40 will remember the Chernobyl Disaster. It was absolutely heart-breaking at the time, and it’s still affecting thousands of people today. “This is a fantastic project which gives these children a real boost. “We have now donated almost £50,000 to charities and good causes across south west wales through Community Champions – and there’s more to come.”

Persimmon Homes is currently building in Swansea at Glan yr Afon, Mariners Walk, Emily Fields, Llys Meredith in Gorseinon and Cwrt Y Bedw in Pontarddulais. Visit www.persimmonhomes.com for more information.

No stress, no hassle, no fuss Experience of moving house couldn't have been better, says Tony

“Considering people say that moving house is one of the most stressful experiences you can have, this move has been totally stress-free,” says Tony Davies, who recently helped his son buy his first home, a two-bed apartment at Redcliffe Homes' Llangattock Court development in Monmouth. Tony has moved into the apartment with his son Morgan. Tony continues: “Te apartment is wonderful and beautifully finished. Te views of the countryside are simply amazing - the design of the apartment really maximises the local beauty and floods the rooms with natural light. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design - the views, the open plan rooms, and the large windows - and it's a credit to the architects and to Redcliffe” Tony has moved from Maidenhead to live in Monmouth, while Morgan

has recently graduated and started his first job in Bristol. Monmouth is ideal to commute to Bristol and Tony finds himself well placed to hop on the motorway to Birmingham for work when he has to. "Te combination of the great on-site staff from Redcliffe and the new people moving into the apartments is starting to create a real sense of community. "Everything about
