Trump, his sons and daughter describe the special place Turnberry has in their lives

hink it’s going to be one of the great hotels of the world,” said Donald Trump. “It was a great hotel, but it was


somewhat dilapidated. We could have just fixed and painted it. But we wanted to do it the way we


have done it; gutted it back to the steel. We went back to the original architectural plans from 1906, and rebuilt – and I think we have some- thing that is really special. My son Eric was in charge of the job, and I wanted to come over with Ivanka and Don [his daughter and other son] to congratulate him.”


AS TRUMP SPOKE, at the official opening Trump Turnberry in June, he cast a glance behind him and de- scribed the restoration of the iconic lighthouse, designed by Robert Louis Stevenson’s engineer father Tomas, and how many of the Ailsa Championship golf course’s holes had been redesigned, some “out into the ocean”. He said that his son Don had
