Strong demand
SHS reports strong demand throughout its region, with significant construction activity in Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth, but approximately 75% of business comes from the Greater London area. The company operates on projects throughout the South East of England, Wales and covers the Channel Islands.

Kirsty Archbold-Laming says that visiting the Executive Hire Show gave an ideal opportunity to meet suppliers. “We touched base with Mace Industries, which is Geda’s UK distributor, and bought some smaller hoists. Although we operate in a specialist hire market, the Show is invaluable for keeping in touch with the industry. We met up with inspHire, whose computer system we have used since SHS was established, and it is used throughout the Fentons group. We also had discussions with
MHM Plant about its generator re-hire service, as we are frequently asked for temporary power equipment to drive the hoists.”
Regarding the hoist fleet, Lance Foster explained, “We work closely with Geda. They actually developed a new concept for us of a fully C-gated hoist on a single on new models and improvements, developing new concepts. The latest model we have requested for the UK market is a single mast 1,500kg SWL 3m cage with full C-gate specification, ideal for moving plasterboard. It is designated the
Indeed, SHS prides itself on being able to tackle enquiries that are out of the ordinary. One of its hoists was used to provide access to the Royal Box at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert outside Buckingham Palace in June 2012. It was duly installed, complete with red carpet.
