Dedicated production facility
To make the CX17C, CX18C, CX26C and CX37C there is a dedicated production line and specific fabrication areas at the Italian factory for the machines’ lower and upper frames, booms and dipper arms. The manufacturing process will benefit from the stringent quality procedures already in place for the larger (13 to 29-tonne) Sumitomo-derived tracked CX excavators that are also now being made at this facility.
By the end of this year Case will add a 3-tonne class mini, and there are plans to also phase in 1, 2 and 5-tonners. All these new ‘C series’ CX minis are tracked machines, and there are no plans to add a wheeled model like the 5.5-tonne Hyundai R55W-9A.
A new mini production line has been established at the Case factory.
Following the departure of long-serving Scott Freeman for pastures new, Case has appointed Leigh Harris as its Business Director for the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Previously employed by Case as Director of Network Development EMEA, he brings ten years of experience in the construction equipment industry. He says that all Case dealers will be selling the new minis. The Case territory that used to be covered by CBL (which sold larger Case machines alongside Takeuchi compacts) has been taken over by the surrounding Case dealers LDH, BPMS and M&M. There is no intention to appoint any sub-dealers to sell the new minis.
Interestingly, this deal with Hyundai to provide Case minis follows not only the supply of Kobelco-derived models, but also, way back between 1992 and 1997, badged minis from Kubota. So, having gained a widening range of latest-generation minis, Case now appears determined to capitalise on its ample production capacity in Italy and to make its mark in the competitive UK market. A case of third time lucky?
