o“Grasping the pportunities

of change is essential

A new book by members of the McKinsey Global Institute, No Ordinary Disruption, outlines the types of tactic, strategy and mindset needed to thrive in a world in which economic dynamism is shifting from the West to emerging markets.

As the authors say, “Offering executives from emerging markets global career opportunities is one powerful way to get the best talent.” This sets the agenda for all those involved in global mobility, from HR to global mobility specialists to CEOs, project managers, and the wealth of expertise in the supplier chain supporting employees and their families. It is a topic that Re:locate will continue to explore.

As we launch into the conference season, we have been asking the questions that will be debated across the global mobility arena. Insights from the US as the economy picks up are refl ected in viewpoints that illustrate how the industry is preparing for the future. Anticipating such discussions sees lively responses on the shape of mobility in 2020 and beyond.

Discussions started at this year’s EuRA conference in Portugal and covered in the summer issue of our Europe digital magazine will be built on at the WERC Symposium in Boston and the CERC conference in Montreal.

With a tumultuous summer in Europe, business is fi ghting to uphold the place of immigration at the top of the growth agenda. The debate and consultation process in the UK are being replicated across Europe and other regions. Never before has there been such a need to unite the global mobility sphere over the importance of keeping international talent fl owing.

The world described in No Ordinary Disruption is the one those in mobility operate in every day. Understanding the bigger picture and grasping the opportunities of change are essential to build a world that acknowledges cultural differences and supports knowledge as the key to growth across all markets.
