Jaga helps Bridport United Church Bridport United Church in Dorset has recently undergone a major renovation which included the installation of a new heating solution. Consultant Worldwise Ltd identified Jaga as the manufacturer that could provide the best radiator specification and supply service. The Jaga Maxi LST Continuous DBE was chosen as the primary heat source for the main area. The radiators are fitted with Jaga’s LST casing in order to fulfil the church’s safety requirements, keeping surface temperatures below 43°C and making them safe to touch. To provide as much heat as possible, the Maxi LST Continuous was specified to provide a minimum output of 65kW. For an extra heat boost when required Jaga’s Dynamic Boost Effect (DBE) fan units were included. As well as the main hall, Jaga provided solutions for the upper gallery. At the back of the church, beneath a large stained single-glazed window, the Mini Canal DBE trench heater was installed into the floor. Mini Freestanding radiators were also positioned underneath pews around the edges of the gallery. In the function room, the Guardian LST radiator was chosen to manage the heat loads. Flexible far infrared heating courses Offering dealers and installers leading instruction in infrared heat, Herschel’s new and updated online training facility, available via the Herschel Infrared Technology Centre, is on a new, improved platform that is easy to use and also allows offline access via iPad. Herschel’s training programme is designed to keep installers ahead of the game. It includes a new introductory course that explains Far infrared simply and thoroughly. There is also a new accreditation exam for installers and a redesigned marketing portal for dealers. All courses are video-based with a self-assessment quiz at the end. Courses cover the fundamentals of Far infrared for comfort heating, how to specify Far infrared and how to install it. Myson app controls thermostat Myson’s Touch2 Wi-Fi thermostat allows end users to control their heating system remotely via a smartphone or tablet, using a free app that can be downloaded from the firm’s website.


The app system is simple to use, with up to four time and temperature period settings per day. It allows the user to control the heating system while on the move, displaying the live temperature, and enables them to check the property’s temperature history. It is is lockable, using PIN code protection, allowing the bill payer to have control on domestic fuel usage. When activated, the Geo Location feature can automatically turn the heating off when occupants leave, or turn the heating on when individuals reach a ‘target distance’ on their way home. So whether there is a cold snap during the day, or occupants are returning from holiday there is no need to return to a cold house. The thermostat uses its own inbuilt hub to communicate the app user’s instructions. It uses mesh communication for multi-zone control, which means that the system will still be responsive in larger properties with a weaker broadband signal; and it can be used with up to 32 Wi-Fi thermostats throughout the property, one of which can be used to control hot water. Specified by consultant Greenway and Partners and installed by contractor Daly Engineering Services Ltd, the apartments’ heating and domestic hot water needs are fulfilled by Oventrop’s Regudis W-HTU Duo twin plate Heat Interface Units. Primary heating and BCWS are supplied from a central plant room to each apartment, with the HIU capable of providing up to 15kW of heating and up to 17 litres per minute of domestic hot water. Comfortable jumping Powrmatic NVx warm air heaters are helping to ensure comfortable conditions for trampolinists and spectators at the Base Jump trampoline park in Rayleigh, Essex. The units were specified and installed by Heventech Mechanical Services.


Base Jump’s Jason Hall said: “The metal construction of the facility means that heat losses are quite high so we need heating in the winter, but when we moved in the existing heaters were not working. We therefore contacted Heventech to propose a solution.” Heventech’s Lee Wilkinson added: “We identified that four Powrmatic NVx warm air heaters would provide sufficient capacity to replace the previous six heaters in the building. These have been mounted along one wall and, combined with the existing destratification fans, provide even temperature distribution throughout the space.”


The NVx warm air heaters at Base Jump are controlled by a Powrmatic MC200 on each unit to maintain a minimum temperature of 15°C, which is supplemented by body heat from the activities in the space – capable of raising the temperature by another 4-5°C. Boilers help school to save energy Remeha Quinta Pro boilers have helped slash gas consumption at Sandbach School by £3,000 in four months, cutting its carbon footprint and increasing the heat output.


When more than half the existing boilers failed in the school’s two plant rooms, the main concern was to increase the reliability and output of the heating to meet current and future demand. Due to the nature of the building, the refurbishment of both plant rooms had to be completed within the six week summer holidays. Innovative chimney lining solution Chimflue is one of the UK’s leading specialists in the installation of FuranFlex, an innovative solution to chimney lining.
