Fujitsu
Fujitsu has announced three new 2-pipe VRF heat pump outdoor units. Designated J-IIIL, the standalone non- modular side discharge fans will be available in 22.4, 28.0 & 33.4kW sizes (8, 10 & 12HP). They are aimed directly at the commercial and light commercial sector which require outdoor units with compact sizes (only 1,428mm high), low weight (170kg), low sound level (52dBA for 22.4kW model plus a further 3dBA reduction via a low noise function setting), high connection ratio (up to 30 indoor units on 33kW model), ductable outdoor fans (30Pa on 33kW model) and long pipe runs (120m index run, 400m maximum system and 60m from first separation tube to furthest indoor unit). The new systems feature a low refrigerant charge volume. In most cases they will not need a refrigerant leak detection system and can be connected to other manufacturers’ AHUs via Fujitsu’s DX AHU kit.

Gilberts
Ayrshire College’s new £50+million Kilmarnock Campus is achieving excellence, helped in part by its ventilation. Air movement grilles and diffusers from Gilberts Blackpool have been used as a key component of the ventilation strategy at the campus, which has attained a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating. Stothers M&E, for main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey, chose Gilberts’ DGA Type four- way diffusers and GSLS linear slot diffusers, to ensure adequate flow of fresh air throughout the main building. Gilberts’ DGA/4 louvred face ceiling diffusers provide four-way blow with a maximum cooling differential of 12OC through the ceiling. The GSLS slimline linear slot diffusers feature a “unique” air deflection control vane. The design enabled Stothers to achieve smooth, accurate airflow across the ceiling, and adjoin lengths as required, to the exact requirements of each area to be ventilated.

Carrier
Carrier Rental Systems has invested in a new fleet of 400 high-performance portable air conditioning units to meet summer demand. Detailed testing and evaluation was carried out to identify the most robust, effective and reliable portable air conditioners available, in order to provide the level of service Carrier Rental System customers have come to expect. Director of Carrier Rental Systems, Marc White, said: The chosen unit, the ACU 3.5kW mobile air conditioner, combines excellent design, robust construction, great performance and quiet operation. With its attractive silver livery, it also looks good in most environments. We believe it’s going to be a winner when temperatures start rising during the summer months.” The electronically- controlled ACU 3.5kW units, which replace its previous KY32 cooling units, are now available for immediate hire across the UK and Ireland.

Alpha Heating Innovation
For residents of Meadowlark Care Centre in Forres, Morayshire, keeping warm is crucial to their health and wellbeing. When it was time to upgrade the boilers, Martin Annal of CHES Ltd recommended Alpha Heating Innovation to maintain thermal comfort with an efficient heating solution. However, with 57 single occupancy rooms split into three units, Meadowlark generates a high demand for heating and domestic hot water needs and required a heating system that could cope. Recognising this need and valuing the energy credentials of Alpha’s boilers, Martin Annal of CHES Ltd specified two Alpha ProTec Plus 50 boilers with header kits, mixing pots and weather compensating controls for the two plantrooms. Including a cascade manager, the system can adapt to changing demands easily and efficiently.

CIAT has launched Floway Access, a new single block compact air handling unit. The range is fully compliant with the 2016 Ecodesign Directive passed by the EC and also meets the requirements on energy savings and reduced carbon footprint already announced for the Commission’s next regulatory upgrade. In addition, Floway air handling units, as well as the heat recovery units, are certified by Eurovent. The highest performance standards are met thanks to the brushless motor and high efficiency plug fan, which allow a wide airflow modulation range, resulting in a motor efficiency up to 90%. In addition, Floway panels are thickly insulated to ensure quiet
operation. The range now includes five standalone dual-flow air handling unit models that deliver highly efficient heating and cooling for indoor air quality and comfort: Floway Access RH; Floway Classic RHE; Floway Classic; Floway Ceiling; and Floway Vertical.

Andrews Sykes
The launch of a new 1,500kW, lower pressure hot-water boiler by Andrews Sykes brings to the industrial fleet hire market an advanced, fully packaged boiler hire unit that features 3-stage NOx burner technology to maximise fuel savings and meet all current EU emission legislation. Its launch follows research by Andrews Boiler Hire that highlights in major projects where large capacities of hot water are required it is often common practice to link a number of boilers. In many such applications the new higher capacity unit will eliminate this, making for a faster and more efficient solution. Available for short or long-term projects, the fully containerised 1,500kW LPHW boiler is fuelled by gas oil as standard but can be converted for use on mains gas supply for short or long term solutions. It runs on a 415V power supply and can be supplied with its own ADR-approved 10,333-litre bunded fuel tank ready to be connected for immediate use.
