Alois Keppler at Ziehl-Abegg in Bieringen assembling a large fan which, as a compact system, has triggered a huge boom in demand in the global market.

F

an and motor manufacturer Ziehl-Abegg has seen its sales grow for 2016 to €482m, com- pared with €447m a year earlier. Ceo Peter Fenkl said: “Global and economic policy framework condi- tions have been more than difficult but we have succeeded in more than asserting our position in the mar- kets.’

The significant growth was facil- itated by new products, improved logistics and a greater commitment to sales and service. The company also opened a new branch in Dubai

last year and increased staff num- bers to more than 3550. Mr Fenkl continued: “The pure sales figures, which are up by about 8%, are the one side but the other is the personal contact, talks with sup- pliers and customers.”

Exports account for a more than 75% of the company’s sales. Busi- ness in Germany has risen slightly but the bulk of the increase has come from other European countries. Sales in the countries on the American continents also have reported above average increases.

Four out of 10 buildings at risk from cyber attack, says survey

A

ccording to the results of a recent survey by the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA)

and Scottish electrical trade body SE- LECT, nearly four out of 10 clients (39 per cent) say that they don’t take any steps to protect smart installations in buildings from cyber threats. In total, 49% of the respondents to the survey said that the risk of hacking, and its impact on unsecured networks was a potential barrier to installing connected technology, highlighting the inherent cyber threats to buildings in the modern era.

The survey findings raise major security and privacy implications for the UK’s business infrastructure, particularly given the likely increase in smart installations over the coming

years, and growth of cyber attacks as an effective tool to disrupt business and politics.

Head of Specialist Groups at the

ECA, Steve Martin, said: “These figures are very concerning, particularly when you consider the inherent risks in the modern day of not securing your business from hackers. Clearly this is an area which clients urgently need to address, given the anticipated growth in smart installations over the coming years.”

The ‘Connected Technology Survey for Clients’ ran for three weeks in November and December 2016. Over- all, there were 229 responses to the survey, including from consultants, engineers, end clients, local authorities and facilities managers.
