The next step in the BIM process
I
t is more than six months since the Government’s deadline for BIM to be mandatory on public sector projects, so the conversation has now moved on to working successfully and seamlessly with BIM. The latest news is that three industry bodies, the Building Engineering Services Association, CIBSE and the Construction Products Association have joined forces to clear up confusion over standardising product information for use in BIM. This is the next step in the process which can only benefit those in the industry whether they are contractors, consultants, manufacturers or customers. You can find all the details about this collaboration on page 9, but also look out for our feature on pg 10 which highlights a case study, The Triangle in Cambridge, where the effective use of BIM and information sharing between partners culminated in a quality end result. • It’s trade fair season again with Ecobuild just around the
corner. In the meantime the annual ISH exhibition gets underway on March 14 in Frankfurt and a large part of the show will be to examine the latest innovations in the heating and air conditioning sectors. Find out what to expect from both shows on pages 16-17 and 18-19. • Issues involving ductwork is another highlight this month and we touch on duct insulation and its potential for increased productivity on pg 22, while the fluctuating prices of steel and how this affects the ductwork sector is the topic on pg 25.

The HVAC & Refrigeration Show 2018
Plans for the fourth edition of the event formerly known as The ACR Show are well underway, with a number of sponsors and exhibitors, including Toshiba, Lordan, Variohm Eurosensor, Thermofin, Jumo Instruments, Broughton Electronics, Greenmill Supply Company and First Choice Refrigeration Spares already signed up. Event manager Karena Cooper is delighted with the response to the 2018
event, which has a new name and location to shout about. She says: “Exhibitors are booking early to secure the right location, to get a good price and to make full use of the exhibitor marketing packages.” Karena says The HVAC & Refrigeration Show is in a very unique position. “Let’s
not forget that it’s the only commercial HVACR event in the UK and we’ve totally refreshed it to meet the needs of the modern market.” She continues: “We are committed to producing an outstanding, market-driven industry event that promotes innovation and supports industry growth across multiple sectors. “The show’s features and networking events provide a live platform for business professionals to share knowledge, focus product innovation, support business trade partnerships and share a dynamically evolving business landscape.”
“Live events give greater understanding to what people think, what they are looking to invest in, the projects they are directly or indirectly involved in, and this direct and instant feedback is valuable.” “In terms of sales uplift and return on investment, the show will provide exhibitors with opportunities to strategically drive sales, influence marketing decisions and gain a greater competitive advantage, revenue growth and increased market share in the UK.” For the first time ever and in a very unique move, the show is also giving
contractors and consultants the opportunity to exhibit through new trade partnerships with construction companies, architectural firms and end users endorsements.
While the show will continue to be marketed to the core markets, further
investment will see it extends its reach to connect with end users in each of the vertical markets. In addition to providing a showcase for new products and developments the 2018 show will include networking events, debates on current issues and the focus on future needs, working lunches, a webinar theatre, youth engagement with the launch of the SkillFRIDGE series and an App café.
