IOR Business Briefi ng: Exploring the impact of rising temperatures on cooling systems
T
he Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) will be hosting a one- day event in Birmingham
on 14 November dedicated to addressing the pressing challenges posed by the increasing frequency of extreme heat events, rising ambient temperatures, and the consequential risks to the reliability of RACHP (Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and Heat Pump) system designs. There is also a risk that the increased demands for cooling to adapt to rising temperatures could undermine business and national objectives to reduce emissions from cooling as part of the net zero agenda. In response to growing concerns
surrounding climate change and its implications for the cooling sector, the IOR’s International Refrigeration Committee is bringing together this gathering of key international stakeholders to share insights and experiences in addressing the complex challenges arising from more extreme temperature variations.

solutions. We will focus on the balance between environmental objectives and the increasingly demanding cooling requirements. Speakers will identify proactive measures that the industry can undertake to plan resilience strategies for the future and off er eff ective, sustainable solutions for industrial, commercial and residential cooling demands. addressing the implications of rising temperatures on cooling systems,’ said Andy Pearson, chair of the IOR’s International Refrigeration Committee. “This event provides a unique opportunity to learn from a collection of international experts, exchange ideas, and collectively contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for the cooling industry.” The IOR’s International
Refrigeration Committee (IRC) was formed to provide UK representation at the International Institute of Refrigeration, an intergovernmental organisation. Members of the IRC appoint representatives to International Commissions on key themes such as Food or Components,
and present UK research and development at international events across the globe. Through this work, the IOR helps to forge links with international counterparts, showcasing UK expertise and working collaboratively on global refrigeration issues.
